DIY Florida Water

Hello Friends! So I recently came across Florida Water for my spiritual practice. Have you heard of it? It’s a powerful energy purifier used for over 200 hundred years, typically in voodoo practices. Although it has a long history in magical practices it actually started as a very popular cologne back in the early 1800’s. It was named Florida water after the belief that the fountain of youth was located in Florida.

Florida water is used for similar reasons as smudging but it’s much more versatile because of its liquid form and said to be way more powerful. You can use it to cleanse your home, yourself, or specific objects such as things on your altar or your crystals. You can add a small amount to a bucket of water and use it to wash down your front door, walls, and floors, for house blessings and protection. You can also use it to help unblock your 7 chakra points by dabbing a little on each energy point of the body.

Making It

Making Florida water is actually a pretty simple process. The hardest part is collecting all the ingredients you need to make it. They aren’t hard to find, there are just a lot of them. You can play around with this recipe switching between dried herbs and essential oils, but you will want a pretty even mix of both. Here is the list of herbs/essential oils you will need:

  • Sage
  • Lavender
  • Cloves
  • Rose Petals
  • Rosemary
  • Lemon
  • Frankincense
  • Ylang Ylang
  • Cinnamon
  • Mint
  • Palo Santo
  • Orange
  • Marigold

You will also need enough Everclear or Vodka to cover your herbal ingredients. The cheaper the better here. No need to splurge on the alcohol you use as it makes no difference in the end result. You will want to prepare a mason jar to hold everything. Clean it with soap and really hot water then let air dry.

I want to mention that there are no specific measurements for making this, your going to let your intuition guide you here. Love Lavender? Add a whole ounce. Don’t dig cloves? Only add a couple. After you have added all your herbs and essential oils you will want to add your alcohol, just enough to cover everything. Put the lid on tightly and give it a few good shakes. Let it sit for ideally 2 weeks. You should give it a shake everyday while focusing on all the positive energy your Florida Water is going to bring to your life.

When it’s done strain everything solid out and re- bottle in another clean glass container. I prefer a fine mist spray bottle for mine.

Adding Your Magic

It will serve you well to look up the magical properties of each herb. Knowing what each ingredient does will help you put more meaningful intentions into your Florida Water. But to keep things easy I have included my personal herbal reference guide to start you off.

Herbs:Essential Oils Reference

Our breathe is a very powerful tool when trying to put our intentions into the world. Before adding each ingredient I suggest gently blowing 3 times over it focusing on your intentions and what you hope that particular herb will bring to your water.

The best time to make it is 3 days around the new moon to add power to your intentions. Learning to work with the moons phases and different energies is a great beginning point to manifesting a positive reality.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you get the chance to make this beautiful water yourself and experience all the blessings it will bring to your spiritual journey. ❤
